On August 27th I had the opportunity to climb to the top of the new eastern span tower and to take a few photographs there and from the deck. Brandon and I were the only ones on the bridge except for a CHP officer parked nearby. The next night the old eastern span which was damaged during the 1987 Loma Prieta earthquake would be closed forever and the new span would take its place after Labor Day.
